Gibbs Community Club

Our Purpose

The Gibbs Community Club is a not for profit organization formed in 1955 to promote the social, educational and character development of the community’s young people.

Through their sponsorship, Gibbs Community Club has provided education and training for the hundreds of students and adults in its Hunter Safety, Marksmanship, and citizenship programs.

Oregon has many sportsmen and women who shoot for recreation. Gibbs Community Club is dedicated to providing Oregon with SAFE and Responsible Sportsmen.

A Short History

Gibbs School is the one-room school originally named Chehalem Mountain School and located at the intersection of Bell and Quarry Roads. The name was changed in honor of Oregon's second Governor, A. C. Gibbs, who resided nearby.

The building you see today was erected in 1886. School was in session there until 1947 when the district began transporting students to the larger Springbrook School.

The Gibbs facilities have been used for community based activities throughout their history.

Gibbs School is now listed on the Yamhill County Registry of Historic Landmarks. It remains the only one-room schoolhouse left in Yamhill County that has not been converted to another use and to remain on its original site. Restoration activities are in honor of those alumni who represent our heritage and the era of the one-room school.

The school house has been restored, and a museum established with artifacts reflecting the era.
